SONG AND JUBILATION

I don’t feel bliss, not even gentle content

But, I am conscious that it is there

Through the open window

Across the fields

Or in the far valley

And if I banish all thoughts of anguish for eight even bars

I can sense its happy aroma

Relish its cooling breeze

And I know that one day soon

I will walk with you in its fertile orchards

And enjoy the fat, heavy rain of summer

And the way it convinces the air to smell like metal

And persuades your eyes to sparkle with virgin thoughts

And even the most mundane thing you say will give rise

To song

And jubilation
